24.04.2012 Fly Tipping
Reports over the last couple of days of a resident fly tipping on to the green near to Holmes Close. Enforcement and CFYA informed and Enforcement to visit resident.

23.04.2012 Potholes
Over the weekend we contacted SBC Highways to have a look around Redcar Road at the amount of potholes that have suddenly appeared. Immediate reply from CFYA to say 22 potholes marked and planned into works.

20.04.2012 Stirling House
Stories doing the rounds that SBC are to close Stirling House and relocate to Billingham. Chief Executive Neil Schneider stated that reviews are ongoing and nothing has been decided. Watch this space.

18.04.2012 Housing Development
Allthough not directly in our area we have been approached by residents around Bader for support to try and stop the building of houses on the small strip of land that runs alongside the newly planted “Thorntree Wood” . Our major concerns are the development may endanger wildlife and encroach on to our woodland areas. meetings are being held with the developer before they put in a planning application.

15.04.2012 Places to visit.
If you are stuck for somewhere to go for a walk for the odd hour then try the nature reserves of basselton Woods and Horseshoe Bend. New safe ,dry paths have been put in along with some features. There are ponds, walks and wild animals and birds to see.

14.04.2012 Wild Flower Meadow
We have scattered thousands of wild flower seeds around the wild flower meadow in the Village Park. Hopefully a lot will take and produce a crop of wild poppies and cornflowers.
Some of last years plants are out in flower already, a good month earlier than last year.

09.04.2012 Eastern Area Highways.
Invitations for next months meeting have arrived. Its looking like the final part of Thorntree Road Traffic Calming will not happen in the next financial year. We will fight our corner at the meeting and see if we can turn the decisions around.

06.04.2012 Village Park
A tree blown down during this weeks gales has been cut up ready for removal by Horticultural Services. It will be taken away during next week, unless residents with wood burning stoves help themselves.

05.04.2012 Jolly Farmers Flower Bed
The VPRA flower bed opposite the Jolly Farmers has been weeded and tidied up ahead of the Britain in Bloom judges visit on the 17th. We intend to plant a selection of poppies and wild flowers in there this year fllowing the them of RHS, Wildflower Gardens.

04.04.2012 Thorntree Road Traffic Calming
After discussions at last nights VPRA meeting we contacted SBC about the possible shortfall of cash to finish the project. Reply from SBC Highways stated there is a shortfall in funding but they hope to obtain more at next months Eastern Area Highways meeting. VPRA have a rep on that committee so will be asking questions and pushing for this project to be finished.
The bus stop near Northumberland road looks like it has now been removed, this was in the plans originally.

03.04.2012 VPRA Meeting
At tonights VPRA meeting:-
We discussed ongoing problems with Thorntree Road Traffic Calming and possible shortage of funds to complete the job. Decided to contact SBC to discuss.
Decided to invite the new Thornaby Police Inspector along to the next meeting.
We discussed potential problems with plans to reduce housing benefits for residents who do not occupy all of the bedrooms in a house. We will put details together to pass on to residents.
Heard about this years VPRA and Thornaby entries into Britain in Bloom
We will be organising our own Garden Competition again this year. Details to be released within the next month.

01.04.2012 Road Gritting
SBC crews will be out after midnight 1st April to grit primary routes as temperatures are due to drop to -1c during the early hours.
