27.02.2011 Local Community Space

Local shopkeeper on Laburnum Avenue - Premier Stores- has been in the press during the past week with their idea of using their back office for community type meetings. Click here for the Gazette article

VPRA have been in discussions with the owners since before the new shop opened and reps had another meeting today. We aim to help facilitate meetings with local Police, Tristar and SBC to use the facility for surgeries. We will also help set up an information point in there so residents can have a one stop shop for advice.

We hope the idea takes off and we can set up these information points around other shops in the area.

25.02.2011 Scammers

Warnings both locally and nationally about the may scams doing the rounds at the moment. Dont be fooled about winning cars, houses etc and dont give anyone your bank details to anyone over the phone or e mail. Dont give your details to anyone at the door even if they are a bona fide charity, you never know what happens to them. If you want to give then give cash at the charities shop.

21.02.2011 Website Again

Sorry for any inconvenience with our Dutch server offline again today. Engineers are working on the problem, alternative link now invoked.

17.02.2011 Website Offline

Apologies to readers for any downtime this week. Our main server host in the Netherlands had a server rack problem and was beyond our control. We did switch over to our alternate server until the main server was back online. Not an ideal switch because we cannot control the pop up adverts but at least it keeps us online and its free. If the site is offline we have 2 more links to the servers which can get you access.

16.02.2011 Old Neashams site

Had a message today form our rep on the Eastern Area Partnership Board that the old Neasham site in the town centre demolition has started and will take 4 to 6 weeks to complete the site clearance. Well done to Thornaby Town Councillors for seeing this through to its conclusion.

14.02.2011 Lollipop Ladies

An article in the gazette last week featured Thornaby Town Council’s proposal to fund crossing patrols if they are cut and make school crossings dangerous. Recently we have lost Gail from the crossing at the Village school (she is now at Mitchell Avenue) and also the crossing lady at the Spitfire. The new Puffin crossing there was fought for by Holmes and Middlefield Residents, backed by VPRA and Thornaby and Ingleby Councillors to give a safe crossing at all times on a busy road. At no time over the past 18 months of negotiating at Eastern Area Highways was there any threat to the crossing patrol mentioned.

14.02.2011 Council Contracts

Our local road sweeper Dean finished work on Friday 11th Feb. Dean was on a temporary contract and it was not extended at this present time. Thanks for all your hard work Dean and good luck, we hope to see you back in the Village in the future. One of the longer serving CFYA operatives, Richard, will be covering our area from today. A hard act to follow and keep up with.
