Minutes of previous meeting‐] Accepted as true record.
Matters arising‐] None that were not to be included in the Agenda of the meeting.
Correspondence. There was no outstanding correspondence to be dealt with.
1. Thorntree Road. The meeting heard that residents were angry that the traffic calming which had been put forward for the Thorntree Road area seemed to have been abandoned. The meeting heard that Councillor Steve Walmsley had been in touch with the group to explain that Stockton Borough Council were unable to continue with the traffic calming as they had run out of money. There was a short fall of some 17,000. Whilst there had only been four residents who had questioned the proposals for the traffic calming it was thought that there would have been more concern if residents had been told they would only be getting half of it. It was also mentioned that as it stood the residents had put up with the problems of road works and now had all the remaining problems of the old calming system and had lost out again. It was agreed that SBC would be contacted to get the finer details of the situation and an officer be invited to explain how this had come about.
2. Report from Tristar Homes. Sue Scoon, patch manager for the Laburnum Avenue and Thornaby Green area was present to invite the VPRA to work with her and her fellow Tristar officers to organize a small scale event on or around the Thornaby Green area. It was agreed that the event would have to be held on a date which did not clash with either the Queens Jubilee event, the church’s own event or Yorkshire Day. Diaries would be checked and a date , but it was agreed that an event would be organized during the six weeks summer holidays.
Following a question from a resident regarding the renovation of properties Sue revealed that the work should be starting soon and that the Crescent, in the VPRA area would be the area in which work begins.
Questions were asked regarding changes to housing benefit and how it would impact on residents and, whilst it was decided to make this an issue at a future meeting.
Sue also asked for the VPRA to help stopping the fly tipping on the allotments and asked the group to ask residents to report any tipping on the site.
3 There were no police officers at the meeting but they had been contacted It was agreed that the new local Police inspector should be invited to a future meeting to be welcomed to the area.
4 Thornaby in Bloom. The meeting heard that the Thornaby in Bloom Committee, of which the VPRA are part had been awarded a Silver Gilt for the Town’s entry. The VPRA were awarded an outstanding achievement award For our entry as a neighbourhood.
5 Village Park. The VPRA reps had met with SBC officers this month to seek a robust approach to litter in the area. This was accepted and a route for litter pickers in the park. However, it had to be accepted that the problem was caused by the people using the park and people dumping.
