The VPRA has identified new planting areas for this summer season. The main one is on the lower Green at the entrance to Holmes Close. A lot of work will be involved so volunteers will be welcomed. For more information on this and other planting ideas check out the In Bloom website and the new picture archive on This is Thornaby.

The beginning’s of In Bloom
|
2006 saw the start of the VPRA interest in Northumbria in Bloom We managed to get Stockton Council to agree to letting us put in a new flower bed opposite the Jolly Farmer’s Pub on Thornaby Road. This was done in June on one of the hottest weekends of the year. All plants were grown by our committee members and although some were a bit young we managed to plant out on the 3rd June. A month before CFYA planted their beds.
|
During July we were honoured to be asked to meet the judges for Northumbria in Bloom when they were touring the town judging the Thornaby entry in the Bloom competition.
|
In November 2006 we received a donation of 10,000 spring bulbs and 250 Primula Plants thanks to CFYA Horticultural Services. This plus the £250.00 donated from Thornaby Town Council made it a busy month for planting.Bulbs were planted all around Thornaby Green, the Airman Statue,Thornaby Road ,all of the small green spaces around Beechwood Road/Chestnut Grove area.
Trac
y from SCRAGS brought her children along to help put in the first 1000 bulbs.
|
After a busy winter of 2006 and spring 2007 we were awarded another CFYA award for services to the community.
This was soon followed by a neighbourhood award from Britain in Bloom.

Thanks to Stockton Borough Council, CFYA and Horticultural Services for their support and donations of bulbs and plants.
