25/06/2010 Thanks CFYA
CFYA came to the rescue of the VPRA flower beds at the Jollies Car Park. We were stuggling to get enough water on to keep the planting alive in the hot sun. Thanks to CFYA Horticultural dept for getting one of their bowsers to soak the bed on Friday and again on monday if needed.

24/06/2010 Stolen Car
A stolen Corsa, taken from Thornaby Road around 10pm last night was reported by residents from Holmes Close as having been set on fire on the Green, near the close. The explosion alarmed residents in both Holmes Close and Richardson Road. Fire brigade put fire out and had the car towed away. However, the remains of the vehicle, burned and broken glass etc still remains on the path, making it hazardous for children and dog walkers

23/06/2010 Cyber Bullying
There was a Cyber Bullying Awareness event in the Village Primary School, talk by Stockton Police and Junior Neighbourhood Watch. About a dozen parents and teachers attended along with the same number of children. A lot of people had their eyes opened to what can happen and how dangerous some instant messaging and internet sites can be in the wrong fingers.

22/06/2010 VPRA Meeting
Next VPRA meeting is on Friday 2nd July,7pm at the Robert Atkinson Centre. Guest speakers from SBC Highways and Neighbourhood Watch.
Agenda items include the ongoing problems of ASB around Thorntree Road shops and Fordy Grove. Parkview Home plans and Thorntre Road Traffic Calming.

20/06/2010 Fly Tipping (Again)
On Friday a kind person in our area thought it might be good to take a 3 piece suite for a walk to the Village Park and leave it there. Unfortunately for them, keen eyed residents saw what was happening and contacted VPRA and CFYA. Between them all, they managed to get Enforcement to take immediate action and have the offenders spoken to and the furniture removed. Well done to all concerned for your efforts on keeping our park free of rubbish.

19/06/2010 Garden Fires.
VPRA have had reports recently about a resident apparently burning cable after dark in his back garden. Police and Enforcement have been informed.Tristar Homes have also been notified as it appears the house is one of theirs.

This years Green Thumbs categories are confirmed as follows.
Best Large Front Garden ,Best Small Front Garden, Best Pensioners Garden Best Colorfull Garden,Best Modern Garden,Best Innovative Use of Garden Space Best Hanging Basket,Best Hedge,Overall Best Garden
Once again the format is for gardens within the current VPRA boundaries to be nominated by their owners ,friends, relatives or Tristar/SBC. Pictures of all nominated gardens will be taken in July and August(depending on how the summer season goes) then will be submitted to our online judging panel made up of gardeners around the world. All nominated gardens will get a Certificate of Merit, section winners will also receive a small trophy. The overall winner will also receive a trophy and a prize to be announced later. Presentations will be at our September or October meeting.

Congratulations to PC 1080 Mark Walton on winning Neighbourhood Police Officer of the year for the Stockton Division and also the Stainsby Neighbourhood Police team for winning the Stockton team award.

14/06/2010 Mandale Gyratory System
Dont forget the Mandale Gyratory road works have started and will be on for the next 19 weeks.
Introduction of contraflow bus lane on Mandale Road, together with new stops serving Thornaby Station. Rationalisation of existing bus stop provision.

13/06/2010 Parkview Home
The planning application for the proposed new facility at the old Parkview site is now online. 10/1122/FUL
According to the planning portal all residents in adjoining properties have been consulted. If you want to object or comment on the application then you need to do so quickly either in writing or online at the SBC Planing Portal. Click here
VPRA reps have been in touch with SBC for confirmation about the plans and hope to have this included in our July 2nd meeting.

12/06/2010 Britain in Bloom
VPRA gardeners were out at the crack of dawn and again at lunchtime planting up the flower bed opposite the Jolly Farmers. Hopefully if things grow we should have a great display.Total cost for the plants came to under £5 as most were grown from seed during the spring apart from some Impatiens and Geraniums which were donated by CFYA to replace some that had beed damaged by birds and slugs.

VPRA photographer will be out and about during the world cup looking for the best decorated house in the area. Prizes for the best houses.

VPRA intend to use the free survey system Survey Monkey to obtain information from residents around our area. This months survey is to do with Anti Social Behaviour in your area.Please have a look and complete it. You do not have to give names and addresses.

06/06/2010 Green Waste
A word of warning to residents about Green Waste, please do not put bags out until your collection day.They need to be out for 7am on your fortnightly collection day.Please do not put them out in the wrong week or more than the night before.CFYA have the right to fine people for putting waste out too early. One house on Thornaby Road currently has 26 plastic bags lining the pavement, dangerous for pedestrians and also road users.CFYA have been requested to look into clearing.

03/06/2010 Thorntree Traffic Calming
Houses along Thorntree Road should receive their lates updates from SBC within the next couple of days.
SBC have promised site and home visits where and if required.

03/06/2010 VPRA Meeting
Main points from last nights meeting were
Existing problems on Traffic Calming on Thorntree Road :- SBC to be consulted with residents concerns.
ASB problems in and around Fordy Grove.:- All residents from Fordy Grove to be invited to a special meeting at the begining of July to discuss any concerns they have.
Beechwood and Chestnut Action Group:- support to be given form VPRA along with the offer of In Bloom planting.
Junior Neighbourhood Watch:- A cheque for £500 was presented by the group on behalf of Tristar to Michelle Legg our local PCSO for the scheme which we are promoting around Thornaby.
Village Park :- Future plans and an update on the Green Flag judging visit.

Dont forget that the Mandale Triangle Area road improvements start on June 7th for 20 weeks..Work includes putting in bus only lanes on Mandale Road and 2 road closures.
