22.10.2011 Town Centre Taxis
People may have noticed that the new Town Centre has a proper recognised Taxi Rank between Asda and the Doctors, cars must be registered to use this. Currently the owners of the shopping centre lease the space to the newly formed Thornaby Town Taxi’s and they are the only taxis licensed to ply their trade from the centre.
Other firms and Private Hire Cars are allowed to drop off and pick up if pre booked but not allowed to approach people for hire. Talking with one of the TTT owners today and they state if you approach their cars and use them and have an accident of any kind then you would be insured. If you approach and use a non pre booked Private Hire car then insurance’s may be invalid as well as the driver breaking the law.

20.10.2011 Barry Hunter
Our good friend and supporter Barry Hunter has recently been made redundant from Stockton Council CFYA. Barry has done a tremendous amount of work helping our group and others in the borough for numerous years and to be honest we have missed his input since July. Barry lives in Darlington but he always attended our functions and In Bloom planting sessions .To thank Barry for his help we arranged for committee members to present him with an engraved clock at last nights meeting. Thank You Barry and keep in touch.

06.10.2011 Scam Alert
From Neighbourhood Watch
[Reference: NEW SCAM ]
Hotel Scam
You go to your hotel check in, give them your card details for charges (i.e. room service) You get settled into your room, and your room phone rings, it is the front desk stating that there is a problem with the card and could you re-read your details and the last three digits of the security code so that they can clarify and take payment.
Only problem is this is not the front desk but a scammer who has phoned the hotel and asked to be put through to your room front desk transfers them to your room, and that’s when the scam starts.
The Scammer may have been in the reception area when you booked in and heard your surname as you booked in and your room number.
However it is know that scammers will just phone any hotel reception and give any room number hoping that the room will be occupied.
If you use Hotels and you get a call from reception of this kind then please take the time to go to reception and speak with them direct.
