The NIB Judges made their second visit of the summer to our patch for the Neighbourhood Awards Section. A very impressed judge left after a tour of the area and afternoon tea in Parkview Home (courtesy of the staff). We hope that we did enough to win one of their awards.
The first visit of the summer was in July as part of the Thornaby entry in the Northumbria in Bloom competition proper. The VPRA along with Thornaby (Littleboy) Bowls club are the only participants in this entry apart from Stockton Borough Council.

The residents at Parkview have asked me to write and thank the Village Park Residents Association for all the hard work and effort you have put into improving our gardens.
The difference is amazing and we now have a much more pleasant and cheerful outlook, which is appreciated by all and commented upon by many. Our residents are now enjoying the gardens whenever possible, which hasnt been too often over the last few weeks due to the terrible weather, although we did enjoy a BBQ last weekend; and managed to ensure that everything was adequately charred before the heavens opened at around 12.30!
On a positive note all our lovely new plants seem to be thriving in the wet, although if it continues we may need to invest in a couple of Machetes!
Once again, thank you all for your hard work.

Manager , Parkview ECP (on behalf of the residents at Parkview)

The VPRA began the mammoth task of painting the exterior fences along Thorntree Road. This is in Partnership with SBC Care For Your Area who have provided the materials and the residents the time and manpower. We are leaving the gates at the moment as news has just come through that there is money in the council pot to move the gates and repair them. Latest plans are that they will be moved forward to line up with the existing fence and the two gates will be moved next to the main gate feature. A new gate is also planned further up Thorntree road towards Millbank Lane which will make access to the play area easier to residents coming from the new airfield houses and beyond.

The new traffic calming measures for Thorntree /Redcar /Laburnum areas are due to begin in September. This will be done at the same time as highways and pavement repairs
8/5/2007 The VPRA have asked for a new rubbish bin to be installed at the lay by opposite the Jolly Farmers. Thanks to excellent quick work by Christine James and the CFYA team we had one installed within 4 days of asking. Lets hope people use it.
2/5/2007 After many months of e mails and calls to the Police and CFYA, Enforcement and anyone else who would listen a new camera has been fitted on the existing camera pole at the corner of Thorntree and Redcar roads. There has been a noticed decrease in litter in this area since the camera was made live.

After a number of reports from the VPRA and other members of the public about dog fouling, CFYA are going to have their Dog Wardens patrol the area. If you know of any pavements that are regularly fouled then please contact them. CFYA
Parts of the Village are currently under investigation are :- Redcar Road (from Thornaby Road to Thorntree Road) Thorntree Road (From the shops to Millbank Lane)Â Thornaby Road (From Lanehouse Road to the Airman Statue.)
Dont forget it is illegal to leave your dogs mess on a public highway or green area.
The recent problem with rubbish being left around the area on bin days has been rectified. After E-mails(with pictures) from the VPRA of spillage from the collection vehicle it was discovered that the wagon had a fault and was immediately repaired on its return to the depot. Street cleaners were promptly sent out to and area where mess had been reported and everything was cleaned up satisfactorily
Fordy Grove
Some of the residents of the Fordy Grove area of Thornaby have been in touch with the VPRA concerning the grass verges along the sides of the road which they believe have become both unsightly and potentially a cause of accidents. They have asked if the VPRA can contact the council on their behalf, as their residents group, to have some form of solution found to what they see as a problem. However, before the VPRA ca do anything it is necessary for all the residents in the area to have the opportunity to express an opinion. Do you agree there is a problem? Do you think you have the answer, the cause or the best way to find a mutually acceptable route forward? Well we want to hear from you.
PLEASE give us your opinions, as it is the residents who have the last word in all VPRA matters
Within an hour of the leaflets being delivered to residents of Fordy Grove on Sunday 25th February we had some very quick replies. All names are withheld for privacy.
Mr Resident, (phone call)has expressed the desire to see the area returned to former glory, with the restoration of the grass verges and the bill for this being placed with the residents who drive on to the verges. He has a car but does not do this and wont. He points out that he has a car and cars go on drives.
A Resident-(Name withheld by us)(text) I would like to see cars made to park off road, I don't know how but made to go on the drives as its getting worse to drive there and thats the only way
A Resident(Name withheld by us)(text) Pave them over or tarmac the paths and verges. I have no car but couldnt park if I did
48% of the residents have responded by post and their ideas have been passed on to SBC to enable further meetings to take place to resolve the problems.
