30.10.2008 Village Park

Meeting tonight held with SBC officers and the preferred supplier for the artwork on the new play trail. The tarmac is scheduled to be laid down by the end of December along with the new MUGA in place of the tennis courts.

19.10.2008 Football Problems in the Park (Again)

This afternoon there were complaints from residents again about football teams misusing the park. Some players seem to think that the park is a toilet and they can urinate where and when they want. Teams, players have once again been reported to the powers that be. Photo evidence is also being produced.

17.10.2008  Bulb Planting

VPRA collect over 10,000 bulbs(Daffodils and crocus) for this years bulb planting drive.            This will start on Saturday 25th October and begins at 11 am, outside the Old Thornaby Village Social Club, on Thornaby Green. Meanwhile, if you have any ideas for an area within the VPRA boundaries which would benefit from some bulb planting get in touch via this website.

Thanks to CFYA Horticultural Services for once again donating the bulk of our bulbs this year.
 

14.10.2008 Eastern Area Transport Strategy

VPRA reps attended half yearly meeting held in Ingleby Barwick .Some items discussed were the lack of buses on Thornaby Road, Thornaby Station bridge, additional traffic calming on Laburnum ave, tarmac pull ins on Thornaby road as well as traffic schemes for Ingleby Barwick. .

 WE ARE SEEING A SMALL INCREASE IN WALK IN BURGLARIES WITHIN THE DISTRICT THIS CRIME IS EASILY STOPPED IF ALL RESIDENTS COULD KEEP THE FRONT AND REAR DOORS OF THE PROPERTIES LOCKED AT ALL TIMES WHILST THEY ARE IN SIDE.
 

MOST RESIDENT ARE COMING HOME AND LEAVING THE FRONT OR REAR DOOR UNLOCKED THIS IS AN INVITATION TO ANY WOULD BE BURGLAR WHO IS OPERATING IN YOUR AREA AS THEY DO NOT NEED TO BREAK IN THEY JUST OPEN YOUR DOOR AND WALK IN.

 IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU THEN YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY MAY NOT PAY OUT ON ANY CLAIM THAT YOU SUBMIT AS YOU HAVE NOT SECURED YOUR PROPERTY.

 TO AVOID THIS TYPE OF CRIME HAPPENING TO YOU OR YOUR MEMBERS THEN PLEASE LOCK ALL DOORS WHILST YOU ARE IN YOUR PROPERTIES.

Reply from Stainsby Grange Farm stating that their riders do not leave the farm but are willing to help identify people and horses if we can get photographs.

VPRA contacted by PCSO Michelle Legg, concerning the ongoing problems in the village Park. Last night a group of some 12 youths were apprehended by police and PCSO officers and found to be drinking under age.
Their ages ranging between 14 and 16. Alcohol was disposed of and youths taken home. The park will be receiving regular visits and searches have shown large caches of booze being hidden by youths.

05.10.2008 Green Thumbs

Residents who had won prizes at the Green Thumbs Awards but could not turn up for the meeting had their certificates and trophies delivered by VPRA reps today.

Received complaints from residents around the Green about the number of horse riders galloping on the green recently. This is creating dangerous pot holes on the wet ground. VPRA to contact local riding centres to ask for help.

Numerous complaints from residents concerning youths drinking in the Village Park, congregating on the old tennis court, which is shortly to be removed, and drinking. The noise has become a regular part of the lives of residents living near by who reportedly have to put up with screaming and general shouting, along with the sound of bottles smashing, late into the night. These complaints were already well known of,it has been pointed out by the police.

02.10.2008  CFYA

VPRA contacted CFYA about spillage and mess left by the Green Waste collection wagon in Stannage Grove. Immediate action was taken to rectify the problem, thanks to Christine James at CFYA for the prompt action.

02.10.2008 Thornaby and Yarm Rotary club

VPRA invited to address the Thornaby and Yarm Rotary club, and speak about both the VPRA's work and the fishing trips along the tees (on board the Community Barge the Angus Fergusson) which the VPRA organised  and which the T&Y Rotary club funded. This most generous gift to our community has given a great deal of enjoyment to residents across Thornaby and it was a pleasure to thank the gentlemen attending the meeting for the donation.

VPRA 2008 Green Thumb Awards.

In keeping with last year the VPRA held their give something back to the community Green Thumbs Awards on Tuesday 30th September.

This year we had over 50 residents gardens nominated in the Various Categories and a large number of them turned up at the award night in the Robert Atkinson Centre along with Thornaby Town Mayor, Cllr. Mick Eddy who presented the prizes.

Overall best garden and the winner of our special prize donated by Tristar Homes was 19 The Crescent. The second year Mr. Challenger has won top prize . Mr. Challenger pictured below with Mick Eddy and our two Tristar representatives.
