26/01/2010 Thornaby Town Centre / Thornfield

UPDATE Via Eastern Area Partnership Board, VPRA can reveal that following the pressures of recent market and banking conditions, Thornfield Ventures Ltd, holding company for Thornfield Properties Plc, has been placed into administration. With its joint partners HBOS being subsumed by Lloyds in 2008, the decision has been taken by Lloyds to recoup existing property development loans as part of its approach to manage the high level of debt. Whilst the special purpose vehicle, Thornfield Properties (Thornaby), remains directly unaffected and will continue to operate in the delivery of Thornaby Town Centre, all staff are to be made redundant at the end of January.

Hammerson has been appointed to take over the asset management of Thornfield’s property portfolio, which includes Thornaby Town Centre. This decision was made due to the development experience and asset management skills that Hammerson’s have built up following the delivery of large-scale, retail regeneration schemes.

An introductory meeting has been held between the Council and Hammerson to establish their intentions for Thornaby town centre. Early discussions indicate that Hammerson’s are committed to continue to work in partnership with the Council to ensure the long-term viability of the development. Issues to be addressed include the requirement for a road link from Allensway to Trenchard Avenue, improvements to the weekly market and the resolution of various financial objectives

25/01/2010 Area Partnerships

VPRA Contacted By James Hadman of Stockton Residents and Community groups

Following on from the bus tours, organised via the Eastern Area Partnership Board team,  which took place just before and Christmas following funding from the Regional Efficiency and Improvement Partnership, some of the feedback from residents was that they would like more information on the following two key themes:

  • More information on regeneration plans for the Borough; and
  • Services and facilities for Children & Young People.
  • As a result two meetings have been organised where you will be able to meet Officers who will provide you with more information and updates on these themes.

The first meeting will take place on the 3rd February 2010, at 9.30am – 11.30am, at the Education Centre, Junction Road, where more information on regeneration plans for the Borough will be provided.  Breakfast will be served on arrival.  The second meeting on Children and Young People will take place on the 10th February 2010, at 1.30pm – 3.30pm at the Education Centre, Junction Road, where more information on services and facilities for Children and Young People will be provided.  Lunch will be served on arrival.

Agendas for the meetings will be circulated on the day.

These Seminars are open to all members of the public, whether you attended the original Bus Tours or not.

15/01/2010 Thorntree Road

Plans arrived today for the possible alterations to the Thorntree Road Traffic Calming Scheme. The original system put in by SBC and ARUP has had quite a few complaints from residents and the bus company Arriva about the placing of the speed humps. It is a little disapointing to the VPRA as they organised the initial meetings and there were no objections from residents at the time or from any transport companies. The plan was designed by ARUP on behalf of SBC and since then Arriva have complained about damage to some buses due to the ramps. Reports today that a man had died falling through the ice on the Tees at Infinity Bridge. Please do not go onto the ice as the river is flowing fast underneath it.

09/11/2010 Frozen River

Please use your common sense when out and about near the river and ponds during this cold spell. The river Tees is frozen over as is the pond on Black Bobbies. Pictures below show the pond completely frozen and with a couple of inches of snow on top. There are footprints already on the pond.If anyone falls through they will not survive long.

09/11/2010 Village Park

VPRA reps visiting the Village Park to do safety checks today due to the bad weather overnight.Paths all walkable although deep in snow.No one had ventured into the play areas allthough there were families rolling large snowballs. White out while in there added another half inch of snow.

05/01/2010 Weather Precautions

As the bad weather is expected to carry on for at least the end of the week and into next week we are trying to keep grit bins topped up.If you do need salt/grit then there are 3 self serve bins that are topped up daily.1 on Green Lane opposite the club entrance,1 on Richardson Road Bank and the Other on Upper Green Lane opposite the church. Please take enough to grit your own paths and think of others. If you have elderly neighbours please spread some on their paths.

VPRA reps are working closelywith CFYA to maintain free stocks and to try and get piles of grit left around the area.Main reason for most areas not getting piles of grit dropped off is the danger of people triping over them.

bins

If you see a grit bin that needs filling around the area or see a potentially dangerous stretch of pavement or road please contact CFYA and give them the details. Click on map to go to SBC site for details.

03/01/2010 Wintry Weather

Take care around the Village Green area, the grit bins were empty this morning and roads and pavements covered in another inch plus of snow.E mail sent to CFYA to try and get bins topped up today or monday am latest.
